Don’t panic it is Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus

The Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that includes viruses that may cause a range of disease in humans, starting from the common cold to Sever Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), also cause a number of animal diseases. But the MERS-CoV strain has not been previously identified in humans, So we have a limited information about the virus characteristics even it pass two years since discovered April 2012 but still more research and investigation running to figure out the complete picture

Is it outbreak or not? …. Do people need to panic? …. As I started the article that WHO is announcing no need to restrict anything with countries suffering from infected cases so we didn’t reach so fare the level for global fear but let’s say frankly yes it is PANDEMIC once the new infection pass the border of one country it is jump from outbreak to pandemic by simple definition (outbreak is increase number of cases more than the expected numbers or appearing of new infections that was disappeared or novel) so by definition yes it is pandemic.

Infection Prevention and control is one of the key preventive elements that need to be closely followed in order to prevent both nosocomial and occupational spread of the novel virus early identification by continuous active surveillance and during that all health care workers need to watch the standard precautions for all cases they are dealing with, once a confirmed respiratory infection (or even suspected) contact and droplet isolation need to be applied while dealing with this patient remember two important overlooked aspects

  • Eye protection is very crucial as the eye mucus membrane can be a portal of entry for the virus
  • Airborne isolation can be applied once you are performing aerosol generating procedure

No need to panic and let us recall the pandemic of Spanish Influenza (1919-1920) with almost 20-40 million people died now we are speaking about 100 people died in more than two years nothing need to exaggerate the fear even continuous research and close application of infection prevention and control is a must to stop more spread
